Every little bit helps, no matter what you do.  Instilling the consciousness in your own mind about building an urban dam is great; it leads to good water conservation habits in your home.  But there is so much more you can do when actively thinking about the steps towards saving water.  Where you start is completely up to you and what works in your situation.  One way to effectively measure your impact (and savings) is to use a system.  Every one of your water conservation practices (whatever you do) will fall into one of the 4 Levels outlined below.
