Level-2

“Re-use/recycle” municipal fresh water supplied to the home.
A more in-depth practice with immediate benefits. Consider this; on average 30% of all water used in the average home is going to supply the toilets. (It’s sometimes hard to believe, but our toilets are supplied with fresh drinking water for operation!). Now add this next statistic; on average 35% of all water used in the average home is from showers and bath tubs. Now imagine if the water from showers/bathtubs was collected, filtered, kept disinfected, and then used to simply supply the toilets. This will result in offsetting ALL the freshwater previously used to operate the toilets - a 30% savings in this one area alone.
- Supplying toilets via Graywater Recycling.
- Irrigation (where allowed) with Graywater.
Benefit: Level 2 practices can result in savings of 30% or more of the fresh water usage in the home. Imagine combining the practices of level 1 and level 2: Savings can now reach 50% or more. Now imagine if every home owner did this just in drought stricken California. The savings would affect our nation’s water supply, food production and economy. See what could happen if everyone built an Urban Dam?
