Level-3

Rainwater harvesting at the home.
Ready for an expanded understanding and wide-spread adoption throughout the U.S., this is accomplished by harvesting water outside of the municipal water supply or your well. Rainwater can be collected, filtered and stored safely from the roof of the home via the existing rain gutters and downspouts. This water can be used for many home water needs that have been previously dependent on freshwater alone. Examples of how the homeowner can use harvested rainwater include:
- Drip irrigation systems; results in ZERO fresh water used for vegetables, gardens.
- With the right type of system… can easily be used for washing machines; huge freshwater offset.
- Supplying operational water for toilets.
- Using rainwater for the washing machine, then collecting it (now Graywater) and supplying the operation water for the toilets. Simply wonderful.
Benefit: The fresh water savings is huge combined with the savings from Levels 1 and 2.
